Antiquing 

If you love what is old and rustic, you will love the Crawford County Antique Trail and Curiosity Stops. Shopping is a year-round activity! No matter the season, there is a reason to shop! Find one-of-a-kind treasures, quilts new and old, and items you never thought you’d see again! Bird Watching

Missouri is an ornithological intersection in the Midwest. In the colder months, birders head for spots along the Mississippi River to watch for rare gulls, and to Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge to observe thousands of migrant Snow Geese and hundreds of Bald Eagles. The rich woods of the Ozark Plateau, harbor forest species such as the Broad-winged Hawk, Chuck-will’s-widow, Acadian Flycatcher, and Worm-eating Warbler. Golfing

We’ve got golf! Our celebrated 9-hole course, Cuba Lakes, sits on the edge of town in a gorgeous setting. Complete with two lakes, this course is challenging and beautiful.  Hit the links with a par 34 that doubles as a par 68. Ideally, a variety of tees, makes golf enjoyable for all skill levels and offers a different look for each 18-hole round. In addition, stick around for lunch at the clubhouse!   

Hiking 

Crawford County has some amazing trails. Set out on foot for an adventure in the Ozarks. The Onondaga Cave State Park offers a series of trails that meander throughout the park. The trail system includes Vilander Bluff Trail, Berryman Trail, Oak Ridge Trail, Deer Run, Blue Heron Trail, and the Meramec River Trail. To the south, Steelville has a new bike adventure trail. Also to the south, the Dillard Mill Historic Site offers the Dillard Mill View Trail with stunning views of the mill.  Just to the west of Cuba, the Forest City Trail system in St. James is home to the newest mountain bike trek in the area. Kite Flying 

The midwest winds offer ideal conditions for flying a kite. This affordable activity is suitable for all ages.  Spring is the best season for kite flying because winds tend to be the most prevalent. To fly a kite, you need plenty of running space an open sky. Most backyard yards are too restricted. Look for a place where trees, buildings, or power lines will not interfere with the kite. The best place for kite-flying is an open field or playground, away from obstructions. In Cuba, check out Hood Park for open space that is ideal for flying a kite. Running the Rails on Route 66

Scheduled for April 2024, the annual Running to the Rocker 5K race will take place in Cuba, Missouri.  This is a competitive, timed 4-mile, scenic run and a Kids’ 1-mile Fun Run in historic downtown Cuba begins and ends at Frisco’s Grill and Pub in downtown Cuba. Trout Fishing

The opening day of Trout Fishing is March 1st. Missouri is infamous for rivers that share a bounty of fish and recreation. Missouri hosts annual free fishing days throughout the state. The annual event occurs statewide on the Saturday and Sunday following the first Monday in June. The Meramec River and Huzzah Conservation in Crawford County provide public access to licensed anglers. Visit the Maramec Springs Park for the area’s best fly-fishing.
